My year has been such a mixed bag of happenings. I won't bore you with one long post ..
Just lots of short ones. I have to learn all the new tricks with blogger too.

My mother passed away on 4th January this year after suffering a stroke on January 1st. She is now at peace. Such a load has lifted from my shoulders as a result. She had her 90th birthday last December so a very good innings. We could have all done without the last 5 years and that includes her.

The Aged Care home staff were as good as they have the time to be and for that I am thankful. I'll find a photo of her gorgeous coffin next post. It was a nice send off and a celebration of her life with five totally different eulogies. Happy New Year to you all.

Every damn year I start off with the best intentions and every year, I fail. Only one is being made this year. TO LOSE THE FAT!!! I'm an emotional eater and boy have I had reason to chomp on food this year. Lots of friends have had a bad year also. Bring on a great new year.

If I lose weight, I am so much happier. Every one and every thing gains. My mental outlook changes dramatically for the better. I need 'better' in my life.

Christmas was lovely and not really hot and no rain in sight. Usually it is stinking hot and humid.
Good food and great friends and family to share with. Love it!

One of my projects is turning my sewing room into a type of sanctuary with candles, rocks, frogs, photos and anything that makes me happy. I have so much "stuff" to be sorted, sold or given away. I am happy with the progress and plan on some painting happening too. I have fabric that is 50 years old and still like the day it was bought.
I'm one of those silly people that have fabric that is too good to use! What is the problem? Cut it, sew it, wear it...... no problem.

That's it for my 200th post.

Wish me luck. xx
I'm happy with my sewing progress of yesterday and hoping to complete the top today.

I sew in a Woman Cave and feel the guilts if I don't sort out some of my " stuff" before I begin.
I was very proud of myself when I got straight in and sewed! More of the same in future.

The fabric is cotton and easy to work with.

Good news....... the need for a heart pace maker has been placed on the back burner for 6 months. My partner's breathlessness and tiredness has lessoned so all is well so far. Such a relief to learn that. From a purely selfish point of view; no hospital visiting and trying to find parks and endless walking along corridors and dealing with medical staff. Feckin Hooray!!!!

Update on my mother......
She is recovering from a fall supposedly at the dining area at the Home. I was called within 10 minutes by a very concerned nurse. They were awaiting the ambulance to take her to the hospital for a check. I phoned the hospital, talked to the doctor handling her and was amazed that an Xray was not ordered, after all it is her right hip area! She returned to the home later that night.

I visited and she is OK except for soreness and one hell of a bruise. We all breathed sighs of relief as the last thing any one wants is a broken hip. I've been told that the elderly do not live very long after a hip fracture. Mum is now 88 and does have trouble walking. She has one older sister left who is 92 yrs old. Her brothers all died before reaching 60!

My 2 siblings are still living in Mum's home and supposedly paying the insurance and council rates. Nothing else. No rent or repairs. I don't speak to them now since my last attempt to get them to pay their way became heated and futile. My brother said he would do jail time over me?? But then... he is a psychotic narcissist. Really scary stuff there. I'll be keeping my distance.
You will not believe it! The electrical work to the deck has been completed!!!! It's been 4 months since the last lot of work was done and now 5 hours of work completed it.... An electrician friend volunteered to do the job and it is not a freebie. We do expect to pay him, of course but should I wait 4 months to do it? I think so. The down lights are the wrong type of light. Should be a cool white light but are a warm day light. They were supposed to be dimmable but are not. Found this out after the dimmers were installed! All bought from Bunnings by my man. I dread him buying things... I really do.

Yesterday he took a neighbour the 90k round trip to our next closest city to drop his vehicle off at the panel beaters. This neighbour is a lazy, conniving type of person. That's a long story for another time! My man comes home with a memory foam mattress topper that costs $399au and is that bloody thin, it won't make any difference to the bed. It is definitely being returned.
This is a whinge but it's just the tip of the iceberg, believe me... He did some whipper snipping/weed whacking the other day and there went a fair sized little pumpkin and really slashed at 2 loved garden beds. Revenge will be mine for a change.

I think the reason why I don't post more often is because I really dislike this keyboard. Keys too undefined, too close together etc etc. If I have my right hand accidentally touches the number keys it will go into a stupid scroll, delete post attack. It's not as though there isn't enough things happening to tell you about. There is.
My partner has a very slow heart rate and so we have been traipsing in and out of doctors offices and hospitals, getting tests and seeing cardiac specialists.

Looks like he'll have to have a Pacemaker. The lovely Cardiac Surgeon said that they are easy to put in but difficult to remove if it doesn't fix the problem. Hence, more CT scans and blood tests.
There was the problem of test results not being found at our last visit. The Drs and staff are just so nice and it is appreciated so much.

I come home a little depressed after seeing all the elderly people and know that is ahead for me. Old age just stinks. One lady told me that she had lost 42kgs since December and they can't find what is causing it. She thinks it is cancer... Her husband has Alzheimer's Disease and some days he is really angry. So she is coping with both problems at an age that it should all be easy sailing.

Anyway....... I'm having a lovely "time out" this morning. It's cool and a beautiful sunny day.
I have no plans for it. May make some lovely soap. May not!

I hope you and yours are all well and are going to have a wonderful day.
Take care. xo
Gotta say, I love this rain!

It is just coming down gently and not doing damage here. I love listening to the rain on the iron roof of the house as I find it soothing and restful. It is still hot and humid which I HATE.......

Hopefully in a few weeks we shall have the beautiful autumn arrive. We do not have deciduous trees in our climate so we miss out on the gorgeous colours of the leaves turning.
It's cool. It's cloudy with a lovely breeze blowing. Just the right day for making a new batch of soap with the gorgeous colours I ordered on line from Heirloom Cosmetics. If I want to sell my soaps at the markets I need to make lots of stock so that it has time to cure. If I don't run out of steam, I can make a few batches.
I would take photos to show you BUT. My 3 month old camera has now gone back to Nikon to get fixed or Nikon will probably say it was dropped, it had sand in it, grass in it, your fault!
The guys from the retailer warned me that this is Nikon's usual stance. What a mob of bastards!!! I'll wait and see.
To make matters worse, could not buy a charger for my other camera at 2 big retail outlets. Also, couldn't buy a phone battery from where we bought the phones! The world is going down the tubes to Agenda 21.

Another lot of very yummy Mango Chutney was made here. It is so nice that we could eat it by the spoonful! I put a little extra mixed spice in and a little more garlic too and this has given it that extra hit of flavour. Let me know if you would like the recipe posted.

This is my first attempt at sealing the jars in a simmering hotwater bath. It worked and each of the jar's lids popped in. I'm going to get out the Fowlers Vacola stuff and do it properly for the next lot of jam making. Storage is a huge problem for me due to the smallness of the home and my lovely collection habits!
We have had horrendous flooding in Australia, AGAIN!!

The wonderful local Coates Hire in Mackay, QLD is taking their tilt tray truck with 2 containers of donated goods and clothing etc, down to Bundaberg to be there for any one in need.

Believe me... that's a lot of people. We took our donations in. The containers were filled within a few days!!! I love kind and generous people. I had made a heap of kids clothes from fabric that a friend had given me a year ago and I was going to sell it very cheap on my market stall. Nah.... this is a far better use for them all. Now, I can sew up some more and diminish that stash.

Also dropped my car off to get the damage fixed from the October incident! Hell no.. don't want to rush these things...
Lydia La Lahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11175566681652761270noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7188274079634309771.post-80579620534456930422013-01-31T10:43:00.002+10:002013-01-31T10:43:42.691+10:00It is hard to stay optimistic! Floods, Fires and Tornadoes.

I won't put up pictures of the devastation along the east coast of Australia. There are so many already.

I really don't know how we can help the victims of the fires and the floods and the tornadoes.

I will not give money to the Red Cross.

I do not trust the Red Cross any more after it was discovered that they kept at least a third of the money that was donated to the Bali Bombing victims and families. I do not know if the whole of this money was ever distributed as it should have been after their greediness and fraud was discovered. The Red Cross promised not to do this again so the Victorian government let them handle the donations for the bushfire victims of Black Saturday, February 2009.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Saturday_bushfires

I wonder if ALL the monies, amounting to over 25 million dollars was given to the ones entitled to it.

Also, who kept the interest paid for these monies invested in interest bearing deposits?

I'm a wreck!

I went to consult the doctor again last week after having a dodgy knee for about 2 months.
An X ray the week before had shown 'mild arthritis'.

We all know X rays do not show up soft tissue very well and I don't know why she went that way. Maybe to keep the guy in business. So, the diagnosis is " Runner's Knee" !!!! I must have got this from many years ago when I actually ran. I knew it was tendon related because I'm like that.
I can self diagnose pretty damn good! I have a few sensible exercises to do twice a day. [sometimes]. There is improvement.

I was optimistic about being pain free so started to look through some travel brochures, planning a trip over seas. Dreaming is good for your spirit. I was drooling over a 21 days coach trip to the UK and wondering if this is the way to go and easier than hiring a car and doing the B & B thing.
B & B's are NOT cheap any more!!! A tent might be a better idea.

Nek minnit!!! I wake up with a very sore big toe joint that then progressively worsens. I consult Dr. Google with my suspicions and sure enough...... Feckin GOUT!!! I thought only people that drank alcohol got that.... wrong. After a lovely hot soak in various herbs and spices, it felt better.
3 painkillers helped get a good sleep. This morning it's improved but is swollen with the tell tale red mark. The toe pain totally puts the knee pain in the 'minor' category. This too shall pass.

It's Sunday here and I plan on making a batch of soap. The sun is out with a vengeance, drying up the puddles and it's too bloody hot to be doing too much work. Soap making is ideal. See how I'll go with the standing needed to do this. The humidity has made my unwrapped soaps sweat. They may all have to go in the oven to gently dry off. I'm hoping that this will happen naturally when the weather changes.
We've just received an invitation to go to a friend's for lunch so I'm going to take a bowl of lightly stewed mango and look around the pantry for something else to go with it.
Take care. xo
I read quite a few blogs because I am a blogaholic.

The common threads running through many of these are sadness, worry, turmoil, troubles, boredom and low self esteem.
There are many happy, contented bloggers out there too ...

I can end up in tears after reading some blogs. I know I am a sook so that accounts for some tears but not all of them.

Is it a sign of the times or is it that social media encourages the airing of our lives whether for good or bad?
There are bloggers that milk the most they can out of a tragedy, even months later.
I know there are horrible events in our lives. I've been through many of them.

But, do we want to move forward gently and slowly heal or do we want to drag it out to keep the readers coming back. I don't know. Every one has their own ideas on coping and every one's blog is their own. The content is theirs and I know I can move on and not read, which I do.

It's like TV..... just switch channels!

I love the funny girls, the travel tales, the amazing quilting women and the self sufficiency blogs.

I totally approve of making money from blogs. Who would want to pay for child minding and risk the ill treatment of your babies? Who wants to pay for working clothes when you can earn the bikkies in your pyjamas? You go girls!!! Just don't be milking your tragedy for all it's worth. Boring.....

So much to choose from. And that is what it is all about..... choice.

I'm sorry if I stood on toes.

person, having neither to weigh thoughts nor measure words, but pouring
them all out, just as they are, chaff and grain together, certain that a
faithful hand will take and sift them, keep what is worth keeping, and
with a breath of kindness blow the rest away." (Dinah Craik)

I would love to have a friend or a sister or a lover that fills that description. To never have to worry if I stumble with my sentences because I'm trying to explain how I feel on a certain subject.

Even to just talk freely about the things that I am passionate about. To talk of UFOs, of the deaths in my family, of the unexplained, of seed collecting and even the lovely soap making that I'm learning. To talk of my worries. To find some solutions to family problems that are still ongoing.

I think I need to get myself an imaginary friend!

What the hell is wrong with people????? It seems that there is a murder or attempted murder every news bulletin. I'm over it. Is it the drugs or the grog or can't people contain their anger?

The judiciary must enforce the full extent of the law. Hand out huge sentences with no remand.
Earn their bloody money and be seen doing their jobs.
If it looks and sounds dangerous.... GET OUT OF THERE. Particularly girlfriends and wives with power freaks for partners. GET OUT!!!

Women have to take more management with their safety. Be alert, look around. Mothers teach your sons to respect women even if the father doesn't. I can see that trend of treating women badly running through families. Any way..... enough of my rant but for god's sake, stand up and be counted. Have a good day! xo

This is what happened. Picture a stinking hot humid day. Got that? We've driven 15ks to pick up the trialer that sh!ould be loaded with someone else's rubbish to take it to the dump as we had lent them the trailer for this purpose. We had to take the old Toyota Landcruiser because it has a tow ball. IT DOES NOT HAVE AIR CONDITIONING! It is dirty inside because my fella is dead lazy when it comes to cleaning vehicles. Well..... cleaning, full stop.

We get to the place, the rubbish is in and off they go to the dump. a long time passes and still not returned. Meanwhile, I'm sitting in the front yard under the shade of a red bottle brush tree. Cool breeze blowing so it's not too bad. Eventually, the phone inside rings so I let it go. Not my business. It kept on ringing over a few times so I answered and sure enough, they had car trouble.

They had only got down the road a little before the fuel supply seemed to cut out. RACQ called and after some walking in the hot sun, the toyota is off to be repaired. Another little car that had a tow ball then takes the rubbish off where you have to run around sorting the bastard and pay $12.00 for the privilege! Back to pick me up then off to our house.
It doesn't read too bad really but it was hot! Hot makes me cranky at the best of times, like today.

About 4 days later it is ready. I have to phone them! It was something to do with leads and condenser and costs $285.00. Pretty stiff seeing that the call out and towing is free. just the parts and labour. Labour was $124.00.

I knew I should have stayed at home!!!!Lydia La Lahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11175566681652761270noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7188274079634309771.post-59907198264005602692013-01-02T21:48:00.003+10:002013-01-02T21:48:58.353+10:00Postponing a long story until tomorrow...I was going to tell you about my day but will do it tomorrow as I hate this keyboard and it's a long story.
I would like to thank each of you for sticking with me.

I really appreciate this and plan to post more often. It might just be frivolous thoughts, a rant or some thing mind boggling!

I love it that some of you live in China, Russia, Malaysia. UK, USA, including Alaska and even good ole Australia with our next door neighbour, New Zealand.

If any one from China lives in Nanjing I would love to know how to get in touch with a darling
girl ( even though she was 28 ) that I met on a coach tour through Europe.

We just loved each other as soon as we met. She was in England expanding her knowledge of the English language after studying at the Foreign Language School. When she returned to Nanjing, she was going to have her baby and if it was a girl, call her Mavis after her lovely teacher in England.

Anyway, I digress. Thank you from my heart. XXOO

I am still in love with soap making and I plan on learning as much as my little brain will retain about it all. I love the wonderful soapies who so very generously share their knowledge on the Internet.
Thank you so much.

We are a little limited in Australia with the fragrance and essential oils end of the process. What is available, costs an arm and a leg.... I've now spent a fortune so I have to carry on and have a stall at some markets in our area to get some money back! . It will kill me physically, I know, but there are effective pain killers on the market!

This is the whinging, whining part.

My bloody weight is sky rocketing and I now have a dodgey, dicky (sore ) knee.
It began as achy and sore to touch behind my left knee, moved further to the right side, then over onto the front.
I, of course, have consulted Dr Google with no answers being found. It looks like I may have to actually..... god forbid..... consult the medical profession!

I do like my 2 doctors and semi trust them. Then to fucking throw fuel on the fire, I broke a tooth, right in the bottom front. On a soft potato chip, of all things... Right off at the bottom, leaving a feral gap!
This was while I was in Townsville to meet up with my daughter who flew up from Brisbane.
We had planned a day's road trip to do the tourist thing. So after the tooth breaking and the accompanying cursing, I go to the car to throw a few things in while my daughter finished her make up and there was a feckin scrape on the rear of the car. Some one must have driven in to park just a little too close! I was extremely cranky and went in to the office to see if they had CCTV. Nuh.... The car next to me had just driven in as the bonnet over the motor was really hot and the water run off from the air conditioner had just started. I still believe he was responsible.

The manager got his mobile number for me and his name for me to talk with him. I didn't ring him for some reason.
Maybe, I felt sorry for him as it was an older car and had those stupid family stickers on the back window. I took photos.

My daughter and I had a great day touring but each time I came back to the car, I felt a little sick!
We enjoyed the next two days together and then she flew out and I drove the 5 hours home.

I rang the insurance company only to be told that the excess was $500.00. The car already has a $2000.00 panel beating job to be done and so I thought I would get these scrapes fixed at the same time for less than the $500.00.

Took the car in to get it looked at. He rubbed at it and said to hang on while he went and got some magic water. He came back and proceeded to clean off all the white paint left on it and now, if you look hard you can see 2 tiny scratches. I was so pleased that I had not phoned the suspected culprit and bothered him too, just before Christmas.

So... there was a guardian angel.... for both of us.

I apologise for my lack of posts. I lost heart and have thought of calling it a day. I'm stalking lots of blogs though! I love all the different styles of writing and your different lives. From totally frivolous to the heart wrenching... Thank you for efforts!

It will be Christmas Day tomorrow for us in Australia and there is excitement in the air! We are doing low key this year. Not that we go over board with festivities any other year!!!!
Children make the difference for me and not worth the hassle just for us.

We have received much needed rain and that makes for a lovely present for us. We lease our land to a stud cattle breeder and the pastures were getting a little low. They are managed well by only grazing the cattle in each cell / paddock for a few days. We have six large cells, all with water laid on. It's surprising how fast the grass regenerates.

Take care and love each other. XO

I am now a Soaper! To keep my mind occupied and happier, I decided to get into some soap and candle making. I've made soap before a few times and liked the process. Luckily I had ordered a whole heap of candle making 'stuff' for my daughter then decided that I wanted some too.

The candles are cute pink and white striped ones in glass containers with lids. I used beautiful soy wax, perfumed oils and a tiny amount of red colouring. The colouring comes in quite small diamond shaped chips and is very economical as only a small amount is needed. My finished product looks pretty amateurish but I will improve. I need to get a decent pouring utensil. You don't notice the drips and spills until the wax has dried!

The soap is mostly unscented made with coconut oil, canola, sunflower and olive oils.
I've been unsuccessfully shopping for Castor oil to add as this is supposed to make the soap even nicer. Looks like another internet buy!
This soap is smooth, sudsy and leaves my skin feeling yummy. You can use it to wash your hair AND your dog AND your baby. There is nothing evil in it.

I have to use lye/caustic soda. Apparently soap can not be made without it. The process of saponification neutralises any bad bits from the lye.

I've given soap to friends, after all we can only use so much and all bar one, who didn't comment, urged me to sell it.

To cut a long story short, 2 friends have offered without any urging from me, to sell the soap and candles at their market stalls! How lovely is that? They sell plants and woodwork so I am in no competition with them. I may get some sales for Christmas with pretty gift baskets and then I will buy more supplies to keep on soaping.....

I thought of having the basic all round soap and also the pretty luxury ones that people pay a fortune for.
So, this has helped me overcome some of my grief and in a productive way.

Thank you to my lovely on line friends for their kind comments. I appreciate them.
I really wasn't aware of how much a few kind words do help and when I write condolences to others I am genuine in my thoughts but did not think they would mean much to the person I was feeling for.

Maybe, I am wrong in thinking that because of how I felt with extra support.

Thanks Guys. XO
She is 3 years younger than me. I was trying coming to terms with the fact that she is really gone and because she lived in Florida, she wouldn't have any of her siblings to see her off.

She had really fought a very brave fight against cancer.
My nephew, her son had driven the 15 or more hours from Nth Kentucky to be there with her husband when it came time to turn off the machines and to give support.
The next day, a little less than 24 hours later, he died while resting after not feeling well and vomiting.
So.... we are sad, very angry, devastated, worried for his wife and 3 lovely children and trying to
support each other.
I was going to phone him before he left Kentucky to let him know I loved him and have a safe trip but after phoning my sister's husband, I thought it was too late at night to be ringing him.
I really regret that I didn't call him.Lydia La Lahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11175566681652761270noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7188274079634309771.post-57849082030396093942012-10-05T09:32:00.000+10:002012-10-05T09:32:18.100+10:00Feckin swearing men and the mess they make.

You should see the mess out on the back area. The decking floor is being replaced and there is shit everywhere. Tools, timber, shoes?, ladder, steel trolleys. etc. It is going to look beautiful when completed. Rain held progress up for a little and it was a lovely, timely break.

I don't do any of the work, just hand a tool now and again, give my expert advice, unasked and supply meals and coffee. We have a friend who is being the paid help.

I am slowly being driven insane!

The problem is that they have to bloody discuss every little move in great depth and then they get it wrong after all that.interspersed
All this in interspersed with lots of foul language.

Now, I'm pretty broad minded and I can use the occasional, well placed swear word myself BUT
not all the feckin time!!!! I had even thought of going away some where for a week and then I thought, why should I? It will take money out of my tight, frugal fist to pay for that, through no fault of my own. So..... when the work begins again, I shall protest nicely. I will keep on their backs until they cease swearing or shut up entirely..... Wish me luck.
Welcome. What a lovely surprise to have Melissa come on board. I have been reading her blog for a long time and class her as a friend even though we most likely will never meet. She has the loveliest, supportive husband and two boys. Pop over and meet them.

It IS a beautiful day but I am so sad. Saddened by the heartless, meaningless murder of the beautiful Irish woman in Melbourne.

Gillian Maegher was walking home alone around 1.43am when she was seen being spoken to by a man in a light blue hoodie. Thank you to the employee of a bridal boutique who went into the shop on Sunday to check their CCTV in case there was any vision that may help.

It did. Nearly the whole confrontation was on it. Maybe I am just feeling down but I get teary every time I think of her.

Other than that.....all is well. My table cloth of hand painted tropical fish is nearly completed.
Only have one eye to do! Then to hem it and press it. It is so nice that I will be doing another. Maybe even branch out into faeries and butterflies! Lots of love to you and keep your children and your self safe. XO

What a great surprise to find I have two new mates to read my posts.
Welcome to Kellie from Kellie@ Delightfully Ludicrous. What a delightful, intriguing blog name.

She has a happy, fun blog that will have you with a smile on your face if not laughing out loud as I was when reading her latest post on old fashioned medical practices.

Welcome also to Julie. I have yet to find Julie's blog. Let us know Julie, if you have one, please.

I'm afraid I don't follow one theme e.g. quilting, cooking or kids. Basically, I just prattle on about anything.
