Sometimes when I am playing my CDs I think of what music I would like at my funeral. I have a huge list of favourites that I should make up a compilation CD to give away to the happy mourners!
Eden Riley of Edenland http://www.edenriley.com/ has asked us bloggers that question in her Saturday meme.
My choice of music is every thing except rap and hip hop. That crap screws with people's heads...
I actually like to be able to listen to and understand the words.
Neil Diamond was my first love.....
Pink Floyd. Classic with a message. Seems I'm into music with a message!
Dirge without music by Edna St. Vincent Millay
A celebration of an interesting life....

We sang 'perhaps love' in primary school choir. It's just the sweetest song ever. Also love the 'turning away'
Quite a mix of songs there - I love it. I think I need Abba in my list now too.
My mother has said for many years that she wants Handel's Hallelujah Chorus from the Messiah to be played at her funeral . I don't know that we will be able to hold it together emotionally if that happens. When my dad died, we had a friend of my sister to sing the hymn "Great is thy Faithfulness". WHen Bob's dad died, our older daughter, who has a beautifiul voice, sang it accapella. She did a fantastic job and held it together quite well. I hope that she will be able to do it for my mother when the time comes, but I am not sure that she will, since she has been much closer to her than any of her grandparents.
I haven't decided on the music, but I would like each attendee to take a piece of fabric away from my great collection! Use it for a hanky or a flag or anything, but wave it in the air and say. "she tried, but didn't always succeed, but she loved her family! (And my sister's dog: Zippy!)
Thank you for your comment, Deb. I'll pop over to your blog to see your faves.
hi Beckie. Music is so meaningful and you have the added benefit of a daughter with a beautiful voice. Save a piece of fabric for me, please! xo
I've already planned mine! Not being morbid, just realistic!!! It might change though as I like different music at different times, mind you I won't be there to hear it - but others will. I used to have a fave song, which was played at someone else's funerla, now it makes me sad when I hear it instead of liking it. Still it reminds me of the person, so that is a happy thing! A compilation sounds good, I might work on that idea too! Have fun!!!!
Lydia,
I Am, I Said ... I GODDAMN ADORE NEIL DIAMOND!
And now want to listen to Hot August Night.
Bloody love your other song choices too, am glad it's not just me who thinks about these things!
xx
Get that music list out and make up the CDs. I've done about 6 to play in the car. When I'm alone!!!! They seem to all be related to events and my kids. I'm such a freaking sook!
Eden.. I am overwhelmed. It's like a celebrity has signed my autograph book1 ( going back to when I was a little groupie.)
Thank you. I've only missed 2 concerts of Neily baby's. I have to travel over 1000 ks to see him but... shit he's worth it.
No, you are not alone with your thoughts. I keep mine bottled up. I do not have a like minded soul around these feral hills!
